The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has announced the results of its first call for the implementation of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs). Out of 20 proposals, three KICs have been selected: “Climate-KIC”, “KIC InnoEnergy” and “EIT ICT Labs”.
KICs are highly integrated partnerships, bringing together excellent actors from higher education, research and business around the climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable energy and the future information and communication society.
The KICs will receive an immediate start-up grant of a total amount of €3 million. They are expected to become fully operational towards mid-2010, after signature of the seven-year EIT Framework Partnership Agreements and the first annual grant agreements.
