description

The Fourth International Conference on Harmonisation between Architecture and Nature will take place on 5 to 7 September 2011 in Kos, Greece. The development of eco-architecture is driven by the depletion of natural resources and the need to preserve the balance of nature. It provides imaginative and expressive solutions and is characterised by the generation of highly creative designs. Eco-architecture also makes every effort to minimise the use of energy at each stage of the building’s life cycle, including that embodied in the extraction and transportation of materials, their fabrication, their assembly into the building and ultimately the ease and the value of recycling when a building’s life is over.

Architecture and design inspired by eco-architecture take into consideration the use of energy in building maintenance, as well as lighting, heating and cooling. Substantial savings, for example, can be achieved by the choice of materials appropriate for passive energy systems, while renewable energy resources can provide heating and electric power.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for discussing the many relevant aspects of eco-architecture including:

  • design with nature;
  • ecological and cultural sensitivity;
  • design by passive systems;
  • life cycle assessment;
  • quantifying sustainability in architecture;
  • resource and rehabilitation;
  • building technologies;
  • ecological impact of materials;
  • durability of materials;
  • adapted reuse;
  • carbon neutral design.
