description

This category assists Western Australian artists and arts workers to attend events or undertake activities of strategic significance to the development and promotion of their arts practice or profession at short notice. Activities may include the presentation of a paper at a conference or seminar, attendance at the opening of their exhibition or book launch, to perform or exhibit at a festival etc. Events/activities may be within Western Australia, Australia or abroad. Artists and arts workers are encouraged to apply through regular funding rounds if time permits.

In addition to the general eligibility requirements of the Arts Grant Program applicants considering this category should be aware

  • attendance must be in response to a written invitation to attend or present; a registration of attendance may be acceptable in specific circumstances where the opportunity is significant;
  • invitations to accept or participate in an award or prize are ineligible, unless significant strategic benefits to the applicant’s practice can be demonstrated;
  • other sources of income must be demonstrated; Artflight offers a contribution toward the costs of travel and freight only;
  • artists and arts workers employed by triennially and multi-year funded organisations may submit applications as individuals, provided they demonstrate that it benefits their own practice and that the activity is not undertaken on behalf of their employers;
  • all travel must originate from Western Australia; Western Australian residents only may apply;
  • groups should submit a joint application and not individual applications for each artist;
  • any activities already funded by other categories of the department’s grants programs are not eligible; and
  • applications to participate in residency programs must demonstrate exceptional strategic opportunity or skills development not available in Western Australia.
