description

The DFG (German Research Foundation) is the central, self-governing research organisation that promotes research at universities and other publicly financed research institutions in Germany. The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation among researchers.

The DFG offers the Mercator Programme to enable Germany’s research universities to invite highly qualified scientists and academics working abroad to complete a DFG-funded stay at their institutes. The visit should focus on joint cooperative projects by the guest and host.

All applications for sponsorship are to be submitted by German universities.

The funding period may be 3 to 12 months. Remuneration is based on the German salary scale for tenured positions (C3/C4). Round trip travel expenses and travel expenses within Germany are included. Positions for research assistants are included.

The DFG may provide up to €1,500 for the Visiting Professor’s contacts of other academic institutions in Germany including scientific meetings. To support the Visiting Professor’s activities at the host institution, the DFG may provide up to €12,500 for assisting personnel.
