How the proposed candidate supports and enhances the university’s overall cardiovascular research strategy and the added value to the BHF of making the award are also important considerations.
The applicant must be a senior research leader with an established international reputation, a substantial output of high impact research papers, and a long-term track record of attracting significant peer-reviewed research grant income as principal investigator.
The duration of the grant is normally up to 10 years, subject to a satisfactory site visit and review after five years, and an undertaking that the university will take over the professor’s salary thereafter.
