The Chief Scientist Office of Scotland invites applications for visiting research fellowships in public health and related areas. The purpose of the scheme is to bring experienced researchers into Scotland to encourage an exchange of ideas and to foster collaboration with researchers, practitioners and policy makers based here. Fellows would be expected to publish at least one significant paper based on their work during the period of the fellowship, and to present their work to Health Department or health service audiences on at least one occasion.
Fellowships are tenable in any of the following host institutions:
Institutions wishing to host a fellowship should apply on behalf of their candidates. Fellowships held jointly in two or more host institutions would also be considered favourably.
Candidates should be experienced researchers based outside Scotland, with a university, research or health service post, from a discipline relevant to their proposed field of study.
Fellowships will be for periods of not less than 3 and no more than 12 months. The fellowship will cover the cost of reimbursing the fellow’s employer for filling the post up to an amount equal to the fellow’s salary. It will also cover travel to and from the fellow’s home institution at the beginning and end of the fellowship (for the fellow, partner and dependent children); accommodation for the period of the fellowship; a contribution towards research expenses (to cover travel within the United Kingdom, access to datasets, etc.); and a contribution of up to 20% of the fellow’s salary towards the costs incurred by the host institution in providing office space, access to library and computing facilities and other essential services. No further overhead costs will be paid.
