description

The basic mission of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) is to advance the study of the humanities and social sciences. Its primary objective is to offer a carefully chosen group of scholars an opportunity to devote themselves entirely to research.

The Golestan Fellowship will be awarded to a candidate engaged in fundamental research in the medical or biological sciences and who has a specialization that would make it profitable for him or her to work in an international setting and be in daily contact with scholars who carry out advanced research in the humanities and social sciences.

Holding a PhD in the humanities or social sciences is a prerequisite for eligibility. Candidates should already have made a significant contribution to their field of research and should ideally be between 35 and 55 years of age.

Where at all possible, Golestan Fellowships will be granted alternately to a Swiss researcher and to a non-Swiss one. The Swiss Academy for Medical Sciences has kindly agreed to assist NIAS in identifying suitable candidates.

The Golestan Foundation extends one fellowship per year to a foreign academic. The fellowship carries a maximum stipend of €3,900 per month. (The actual amount depends on the support the fellow receives from his or her own institution.) In addition, an unaccompanied fellow will receive free housing; the fellow who brings along his or her partner or family is entitled to housing at a subsidised rent.
