The Marc Fitch Fund offers awards to individuals and organisations for research and publication in the fields of archaeology, historical geography, history of art and architecture, heraldry and genealogy, surnames, catalogues of and use of archives (especially ecclesiastical), conservation of artefacts, and other antiquarian, archaeological, or historical studies. The emphasis is on the regional and local history of the British Isles.

Grants are not awarded for foreign travel or for research outside the United Kingdom except in very unusual circumstances.

Awards are not made in connection with vocational or higher education courses and assistance cannot be given to those reading for full-time higher degrees.

It is strongly advised that potential applicants discuss their needs with the executive secretary before completing and submitting application forms.

The award amount is unspecified. Awards made in 2005/06 totalled £161,972.
