The Gerda Henkel Foundation’s funding activities concentrate basically on German and foreign academia in the following fields of historical humanities:
- History
- Prehistory and early history
- Archaeology
- Art history
- History of Islam
- Legal history
PhDs seeking funding for a larger research project (or in connection with a research project) may apply directly for funding.
The maximum grant duration will be two years. The funding will cover include a basic scholarship sum, if appropriate, marital supplement, child-care allowance, and if required, travel costs and material costs.
Only those applicants who have proven their exceptional talents by means of their achievements in their studies and the results of their examinations and whose dissertations are expected to be well-above the average will be given consideration.
