JDRF is the world's leading non-profit, non-governmental contributor of funds to diabetes research, funding an estimated 35% of all type 1 diabetes related research globally. It is the only major diabetes organisation in the world focused exclusively on research.
The Foundation was established in the US in 1970 by parents of children with juvenile diabetes. Over the past 33 years, JDRF has raised more than US$680 million for diabetes research. In 2003, the Foundation committed a further US$100 million to diabetes research, awarding more than 380 research grants and 150 fellowship and career development awards to scientists from 17 countries.
With this enormous level of funding, the organisation has played a key role in setting the world's diabetes research agenda to find a cure.
