The Group of Eight represents Australia’s leading universities: The University of Adelaide, The Australian National University, The University of Melbourne, Monash University, The University of New South Wales, The University of Queensland, The University of Sydney and The University of Western Australia.

The group had been operating as an informal network of vice-chancellors since 1994. It was formally incorporated in September 1999.

Australia Centre Europe

The Australia Centre Europe was established by the Group of Eight in July 2004 to facilitate greater research and academic collaboration with leading European universities, research organizations and networks, governments and industry. Situated in Berlin, the Centre provides a central and direct point of contact in Europe for the Group of Eight institutions, reflecting their commitment to developing opportunities for engagement throughout the region.
