Dr. Carol Nicoll

Dr. Carol Nicoll is in a key position to offer valuable comments on research collaboration opportunities within Europe for Australian researchers and she will share some of her insights on European countries’ perceptions of Australia’s research capability as well as our education services. Her short talk will fuel a discussion on strategies for collaborative research with Europe.

Dr. Carol Nicoll was appointed as Minister-Counsellor (Education, Science and Training) Brussels with Representation to the European Union in January 2005.

Dr. Nicoll was involved in the establishment of the Australian Universities Quality Agency and the Australian Universities Teaching Committee, ran the Australian Awards for University Teaching for several years, and was Director of the Research Policy in Higher Education Division in DEST. She was head of the Higher Education Review team that developed the higher education reform package, Our Universities: Backing Australia’s Future in 2002–2003. She was manager of the Funding Branch in Higher Education Group. Dr. Nicoll has a Master of Educational Administration from the University of Queensland and a doctorate from the University of British Columbia in educational policy. She was awarded a Public Service Medal in 2004.
