Building the infrastructure to manage uncertainty: experiences from inside the EU

Professor Ron Johnston

Professor Johnston’s seminar will constitute the first event in a new joint National Europe Centre and Forum for European-Australian Science and Technology cooperation (FEAST) seminar series entitled Uncertainty, risk and science: a series of joint National Europe Centre-FEAST regulatory dialogue workshops. The aim of these seminars and workshops is to compare, contrast and learn from European and Australian perspectives on the relationships between science & technology and the management of uncertainty and risk, particularly with regard to regulatory frameworks. Our intention is to conduct informal round-table discussions of relevance to policy-makers following a presentation by an invited speaker. The emphasis will be on outreach and engagement rather than academic debate per se. This is because we are particularly keen to develop a constructive dialogue between researchers and public servants on these issues. For more information on this new workshop series please contact Dr Mark Matthews, Executive Director of FEAST.
