Gunnar Öquist

Professor Gunnar Öquist is the Permanent Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

His field of research is stress and adaptation mechanisms in photosynthesis with a particular emphasis on elucidating the physiological responses of photosynthesis under the combined conditions of low temperature and high light.

Professor Öquist has more than 150 publications in international journals. Impact: classified as an ISI Highly Cited Researcher (isihighlycited.com).

He was head of the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University between 1981 and 2003.

Professor Öquist was the head of the Swedish Natural Science Research Council between 1993 and 1999, and since 2003 he has been the Permanent Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He has been a member of the Board of the European Science Foundation, and is currently member of the European Research Advisory Board and of the Board of Bergen University. He has also led several national and international reviews of science and research.

Professor Öquist is member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada, the Australian Academy of Science and Academia Europea.
